2022

The 49th International Folklore Festival “Skamba skamba kankliai” took place in Vilnius on May 26–29 (2022). This event is one of the few authentic ethnic music festivals in Europe that has become an annual feast for fans of all Lithuanian folklore during its rich history. Traditionally held on the last weekend of May, the festival brings together a large, well-connected community every year. This open, accessible festival reveals the relevance of the intangible cultural heritage and provides artistically valuable experiences and the opportunity to be a part of the continuing inherited culture.

This year's festival was dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the recovery of the Sūduva region. Events presenting the ethnic culture of Sūduva took place to commemorate this occasion, including an exhibition of folk art from the Sūduva region, a scientific-practical symposium, a concert of Sūduva folklore ensembles, and a meeting with singers, continuing the living tradition of Sūduva singing and passing it on to the younger generation.

I was honored to create the visual identity of the festival as well as many design-related deliverables: from a brochure/book to SM visuals, posters, badges, covers, banners, and others.

I chose the Lithuanian phrase ‘Iš Suvalkijos lygumų’ (the plains of Suvalkija) as the main thing to build the concept around. I used the color scheme which is typical for the region as well as patterns/ornaments which are popular within Suvalkija.
