ABOUT THE PROJECT

Skamba skamba kankliai is the oldest folklore festival in Lithuania, held annually in Vilnius since 1973. One of the few authentic ethnic music festivals in Europe, it traditionally takes place on the last weekend of May and plays a significant role in the preservation and continuation of Lithuanian folkloric culture.


I have been working with the festival’s visual identity for five consecutive years (2022–2026), creating a new visual interpretation each year based on the festival’s thematic focus.


2024 THEME

The 2024 visual identity focused on music, dance, songs, and crafts - everything that forms the living fabric of the festival itself. As the 51st edition of the festival, the visual direction was built around real festival moments, using photography as the primary expressive layer to capture atmosphere, movement, and human presence.


These elements were brought together through a stylised, contemporary interpretation of the festival logotype, which functioned as the main unifying graphic element across all communication.


DESIGN VALUE

A cohesive visual identity was developed to serve as the foundation of the festival’s communication. The system balanced documentary authenticity with graphic clarity, allowing real moments from the festival to become central visual material.


The identity was designed as a flexible framework, capable of adapting to a wide range of formats and applications while maintaining consistency across digital, print, and urban environments.


SCOPE & APPLICATIONS

The visual system was applied across:

  • social media graphics and digital advertising

  • posters, banners, flyers, brochures, and festival programs

  • media and city banners

  • merchandise items, including paper bags, stickers, badges ets.

  • motion and video assets for public screens and national television

Promotional videos were broadcast on the national broadcaster LRT and public digital screens, extending the festival’s presence across the city and beyond.
