Creative Solutions for Volkswagen Crafter + How Lina Van Der Mars Transformed My (Life) Journey

After an incredibly emotionally, physically, and safety-challenging trip in Paris (in January, 2019), I finally reached my classmate’s dormitory, my safe haven for the next few days. I opened my broken laptop and discovered an email from a wonderful woman named Lina Van Der Mars. She expressed her admiration for my creative work after stumbling upon me on Instagram and revealed that she works with the Volkswagen Autostadt Museum. Lina proposed a collaboration, asking if I could design an illustration/provide other ideas for a light installation or furniture for a Volkswagen Crafter bus; which was intended to travel the world for the next few years, serving as a platform for architects and creative individuals to discuss urban samples and envision the city of the future.

At first, it seemed like a scam (and a miracle at the same time), especially considering that I had recently left my job in the public relations industry and was just taking my first steps into the design and art industry. Also, with all that surreal Parisian trip background. Despite my initial skepticism, I checked everything online and understood that the deal was real. I replied, and we agreed that I would visit her and her incredible workspace and garage in Berlin. So, I flew to Berlin, visited Lina, and saw the car itself. We began brainstorming ideas and delved into the creative process. However, life happened, and the project never came to fruition.

Nevertheless, the experience left me feeling incredibly inspired to have met someone as creative, brave, smart, intellectual, and skillful as Lina, and to have spent time with her in her space. It also taught me a valuable lesson: if you pursue what you love, the universe (and people like Lina) will guide you forward. Additionally, this project motivated me to acquire new skills, such as soldering, and to gain knowledge about lighting, electricity, industrial design, and more.

I am immensely grateful to Lina for this opportunity, especially for recognizing and believing in my potential. It has had a lasting impact on me, and I will always see it as a source of motivation and inspiration to continue walking my own path.
